research
Why should we perform presentations?
Presentations are a good why to communicate succesfully with others.
They clearly show our opinions about a topic in an organized manner so that others will understand our opinions
What makes a good presentation
Good presentations are organized into 3 different parts.
An introduction
Main points (usually about 2-4)
and a conclusion
Presentations should be very organized and adress one topic
it is very important to stay on topic when giving a presentation because if we get off topic our information does not seem as reliable.
While giving a presentation we want to posses a number of qualities to make our arguments seem more persuasive or our information seem more acurate. It is important to be
Confident
Even if we do not feel confident it is important to apear confident. If you are not confident in your own research your audience will not be interested in what you are presenting.
A good presenter will use their body language while they speak. Proper body language during a presentation shows confidence in the information and makes the argument more intresting.
Eye contact with the audience also shows confidence during a presentation. Eye contact shows the audience that you know the information and that you are not affraid to be infornt of an audience.
organized and on topic
When giving a presentation it is important to stay organized so that our audience can understand our presentation. The information should also all pertain to the main topic of our speech. We should not adress more than one main topic in a presentation
fact oriented
our presentations should be baised off of facts. When we use factual evidence during a presentation it is more likely that our audience will find the information valid. When we use another persons work in the form of a fact we must quote the person in order to give them credit and not claim the work as our own.
Prepared
When giving a presentation we should have our thoughts organized in advance. A presentation most likely will not be effective if we do not know what we are going to say in advance.
While preparing for a presentation it is a good idea to use a visual aid to demonstrate the concept to the audience. Visual aids helps the audience understant the information we are introducing and takes some of the attention off of you the presenter when we are nervous.
Respectful of the audience
When writing a presentation we should consider who we are presenting the information to. We should use words that they are familiar with so that they understand our point but we should also use academic english that demonstrates knowledge for the content.
